6: THREE G-MAJOR CHORD SHAPES
Chords are hugely important, and often the first things a guitarist learns. Bar (or Barre) chords are usually the most difficult but can be conquered quickly with a bit of effort and practice.

However, what most people don’t realise at the beginning is that chords are the chosen notes of scale patterns, and that by moving the notes around according to their numbers you can create almost any chord you want. This takes time, understanding, and memory, but is nowhere near as difficult as you might think. For instance, the numbers in the circles on the diagrams are not finger numbers, but the number of the note as it occurs in the G major scale. Each chord shape is made up of an amalgamation of the scale notes 1, 3 and 5. These can be played in any order, creating what we know as a Major Triad. Changing any one of these notes within the shape will drastically affect the chord’s sound. More Next!
